The mission of the Emergency Management Department is to provide a prepared and capable emergency management program for the City of Kearney and Buffalo County through training, community education and preparedness by providing information and education to the general public, area emergency responders and volunteers.

Emergency Management is by function and by law a cooperative effort on the part of all levels of government and the private sector. At the local level, Emergency Management is concerned with the protection and education of the public from the hazards and risks that affect them. The credibility of the program resides in the credibility of the program advocate. The Emergency Management Coordinator should exemplify the utility of the Emergency Management program.
