What Do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers generally help with tasks such as folding library newsletters and brochures, assisting with programs, refilling supplies, light cleaning, organizing library materials, and more.

Youth going into the 5th–12th grades can help volunteer during summer programming. Informational packets about summer volunteering are available in late spring. Youth interested in volunteering can contact the Youth Services Librarian

Policies

  • Kearney Public Library will attempt to place patrons from ninth grade onward with appropriate tasks.
  • The library does not place court-ordered diversion patrons.
  • The library will accept as many students fulfilling school requirements as can be reasonably managed.
  • Every volunteer will be subject to a criminal background check (through the Kearney Police Department).
  • Formal orientation for new volunteers will be provided.
