School Visits
In October of every year during National Fire Prevention Week, the Fire Department visits Kearney’s elementary schools and provides a fire prevention and safety education program.
Fire Station Tours
Fire station tours are always available to the public. Tours include recognition and usage of various fire equipment, fire prevention and safety information. Arrangements can be made by contacting Fire Station 1 and asking to schedule a fire station tour.
Mobile Fire Safety and Severe Weather Education Trailer
The Fire Department has a Mobile Fire Safety and Severe Weather Education Trailer. The trailer is an actual structure that has a living room/kitchen and a bedroom with a window, escape ladder and telephone with which to practice calling 9-1-1. Children and adults learn about fire prevention, fire safety, and severe weather in a realistic setting. The trailer is available for public special events.
Maintenance and Restoration Projects
The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department restoration group has spent countless hours refurbishing a 1922 and 1929 American LaFrance fire trucks, and a 1948 and 1955 Mack fire trucks. All of these fire trucks were once used by the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department. This group not only maintains the appearances of these fire trucks, they have also restored a soda acid cart, several hose carts, and a parade tiller.
Color Guard
The Fire Department has a small detail of volunteers who can provide posting of the colors at special events in the evenings and weekends.
