Celebrate National Library Week, April 11-17, 2010, with the Kearney Public Library and the Buffalo County Bookmobile. New this year is National Bookmobile Day on Wednesday, April 14. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of mobile library services in the United States. For over 100 years, bookmobiles have provided access to information and technology and supply resources for lifelong learning to Americans of all walks of life, no matter where they are – rural areas, cities, or suburbs.
The Buffalo County and Kearney Public Library Bookmobile travels to communities throughout Buffalo County stopping at 43 locations every two weeks. The bookmobile serves approximately 1,300 students during the school year. Additionally, the bookmobile stops at care homes, daycares, libraries, and many other locations carrying about 3,600 items onboard each trip. The bookmobile runs weekly in June and July making 30 stops and offering summer reading opportunities throughout the county.
National Bookmobile Day is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), the Association for Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS), and the Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL).
