[ARCHIVED] Check Your Electrical Heat Tape

Are you using electric heat tapes to keep water pipes from freezing? If you are, when was the last time you checked the condition of the heat tape? Is the heat tape installed properly? Is your heat tape certified?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates there are approximately 2,000 fires, 10 deaths, and 100 injuries each year involving heat tapes. To help prevent these types of fires, the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department and Consumer Product Safety Commission urge homeowners and residents of manufactured homes to replace electrical heat tapes more than three years old with new electrical heat tapes certified to meet recognized voluntary standards.
