[ARCHIVED] National Library Week 2013 at Kearney Public Library

Communities Matter@your library is the theme of National Library Week 2013. Stop by Kearney Public Library during the week for various programs, activities, and prize drawings – we would love to see you!

Monday, April 15 – Author David Strauss – 1:00 p.m. Lincoln native and author David Strauss will discuss his book Barbarous Souls. Based on a 1955 murder in Lincoln this book tells the story a tragic miscarriage of justice where a grieving husband, Darrel Parker was wrongfully convicted of murder. Based on actual events it also tells the story of the decades-long struggle to clear his name.

Monday, April 15 – Youth Book Bingo Program – 4:00 p.m. Get a Bingo, win a book! Youth of all ages are welcome to participate.

Tuesday, April 16 - World Book Night Giver Reception - 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. If you signed up to be a World Book Night Giver and selected Kearney Public Library as your pickup location this reception is for you. Interested in participating next year? Stop by to pick up information.

Wednesday, April 17 – National Bookmobile Day – all day. Did you know the Kearney Public Library and Buffalo County Bookmobile stops at over 40 locations throughout Buffalo County every two weeks? Serving schools, libraries, care homes, and more; this service is celebrating 45 years! Have a fond memory of the Bookmobile? Stop by and share your memory of the Bookmobile. Book drawings and coloring sheets will be available for your favorite young patron.

Thursday, April 18 – Meet and Greet - 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Stop in to meet your Library Foundation Board, Advisory Board and Friends of the Library leaders. This is your opportunity to meet library leaders at Kearney Public Library. These volunteers give generously of their time and dedication to make your library a community showcase. Light refreshments will be served.

Thursday, April 18 – Poem in Your Pocket Day for Youth – all day. Read your favorite poem to a librarian to earn a small prize and be entered to win additional prizes. Youth of all ages are welcome to participate.
