[ARCHIVED] Nebraska State Poet Twyla Hansen

The Kearney Public Library and Senior College of Central Nebraska are honored to host an evening of poetry with Nebraska State Poet Twyla Hansen on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. Hansen is the author of six books of poetry including her newest, “Dirt Songs: A Plains Duet.”

Hansen was named Nebraska State Poet by Gov. Dave Heineman for the term December 1, 2013 to Nov. 30, 2018. The Nebraska State Poet is a designation that recognizes and honors a Nebraska poet of exceptional talent and accomplishment. The State Poet serves a five-year renewable term to promote and encourage appreciation of poetry and literary life in Nebraska while inspiring an emerging generation of new writers an advocate for poetry, literacy, and literature in Nebraska. Twyla Hansen is an accomplished poet, who has received numerous awards and honors for her poetry, including the High Plains Book Award, the WILLA Literary Award, and twice being awarded the Nebraska Book Award. She will read several of her poems and followed by a time for questions.
