The Sanborn Maps collection is a browsable set of digitized images of the 1867-1970 Sanborn maps for 138 Nebraska cities and towns. Originally created for the purpose of fire insurance, today the maps are used mainly for historical research. The maps contain information such as the size, function, and outline of buildings as well as the location of windows and doors. Additional information includes street names, house and block numbers, boundaries, and more.
A class on the Sanborn Maps database will be offered Monday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. This free, one-hour class will be held in the Kearney Public Library’s Technology Learning Center Classroom on the lower level. Class size is limited to 15, with registration required. Basic computer skills and your library card are required in order to attend. For more information or to register, call the Library’s Reference Desk at 308-233-3256 or stop in at the Library.
