Help people all over the world find their Kearney-area ancestors by learning and using the Billion Graves app. This app allows people from anywhere in the world to view their ancestors’ graves and glean genealogy information.
Kearney Public Library will be hosting multiple sessions of both photographing Kearney Cemetery headstones and uploading and transcribing them to the Billion Graves website. Get started by registering for a 1-hour orientation at Kearney Public Library where we’ll help you download the free Billion Graves app to your smart phone and teach you how to use the app to photograph headstones as well as how to upload and transcribe the photos. After completing the orientation, registered adults may join any of the 7 photographing sessions at the Kearney Cemetery on Tuesday mornings, beginning in June. Registered adults may also help transcribe the photographs to the Billion Graves website on Thursday afternoons, beginning in June.
To register for one of the three orientation sessions, call 308-233-3256 or 308-233-3282. Orientation options include May 28 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.; May 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; or June 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 15.
