The Sanborn Maps collection is a browsable set of digitized images of the 1867-1970 Sanborn maps for 138 Nebraska cities and towns. Originally created for the purpose of fire insurance, today the maps are used mainly for historical research. The maps contain information such as the size, function and outline of buildings as well as the location of windows and doors. Additional information includes street names, house and block numbers, boundaries and more. The Sanborn Maps database is accessible to anyone with an internet connection and their library card number.
A free, 45-minute class on the Sanborn Maps database will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the library’s Technology Learning Center Classroom on the lower level. Class size is limited to 15, with pre-registration and basic computer skills required. For more information or to register, call the library’s reference desk at 308-233-3256or stop in at the library.
