[ARCHIVED] History Brown Bag series presents – The Spaces They Occupied: The Communities of Ron and Carol Cope

Kearney Public Library and the University of Nebraska at Kearney History Department welcome you to the ongoing history brown bag lunch series Wednesday, April 11 from noon - 1:00 p.m. Author Todd von Kampen will present The Spaces They Occupied: The Communities of Ron and Carol Cope.

 

Carol Cope always regarded service as “the price we pay for the space we occupy in this world.” This presentation will sketch the various geographic places they called home, as well as the major communities within Kearney that they joined or helped create, and illustrate how they gave of themselves to all their communities.

Todd von Kampen has written about his native Nebraska for most of his three decades as a journalist and author. He began his newspaper career at the Keith County News in his hometown of Ogallala and has written for the Des Moines Register, the Scottsbluff Star-Herald, the North Platte Telegraph and the Omaha World-Herald. He is the author of All-Night Theater: The Music and Life of J.E. Thayer (2013), a book-CD presentation on the late Dr. James E. Thayer of Sidney, Neb., and Ron & Carol Cope: A Nebraska Love Story, published by Morris Publishing of Kearney in September 2017 on behalf of the Ron & Carol Cope Foundation. A freelance writer and musician, he lives in North Platte with his wife, Joan, and the two youngest of their four children.

This program is free and open to the public so bring your lunch and learn! Dessert and beverages will be provided. This is collaborative program is presented by UNK- History Department, the Nebraska State Historical Society and the Kearney Public Library.
