The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is sponsoring an overtime grant for the Kearney Police Department to take part in the Click it or Ticket enforcement mobilization. This selective enforcement will be conducted from May 24 – June 6, 2021. Officers will be out in force, cracking down on drivers who fail to buckle up and fail to buckle up children.
According to the NDOT Highway Safety Office, in 2020, there were 132 (78%) unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Nebraska. In comparison with other states, Nebraska has the 4th worst observed seat belt usage in the United States.
As always, the Kearney Police Department is requesting that you wear your seat belt and buckle up children as the Nebraska State Law states; seat belt violation 60-6,270 and child restraint violation 60-6,267.
