The Prairie Art Brothers present “Like the Down of a Thistle: A Reader’s Theater Presentation of A Night Before Christmas and Other Poems” on Thursday, December 8 at 7:00 pm at the Kearney Public Library.
The presentation is was adapted from Clement Clark Moore’s “A Visit from Saint Nicholas” by Yardlight Media’s Rick Brown, who writes arts and entertainment stories for the Kearney Hub’s Bravo section. The story starts out in the traditional way but takes a turn with the introduction of Mother and Father Mouse who, in fact, are stirring. Father Mouse, Poindexter, is worried about creating the perfect Christmas for his family, as is the patriarch of the human family in the home, Bob. Their wives, Sarah and Oprah, decide to celebrate Christmas Eve together and they allay their husband’s fears about the things that really make Christmas special. The performance will be presented “readers' theater” style with a number of different readers taking on the parts of the characters in the story.
The program will also include readings of poetry appropriate to the season by Shel Silverstein, Ogden Nash, Garrison Keillor, Robert Frost, and more. This program is free and open to the public. Kearney Public Library is located at 2020 1st Avenue, Kearney, NE
