RV Parking

Overview

The City of Kearney adopted new regulations on June 10, 2008 concerning the parking and storage of recreational vehicles. The rules apply to motor homes, camping trailers, boats and boat trailers, jet ski trailers, enclosed cargo trailers, unenclosed hauling trailers and similar.
  • No RV, boat, hauling trailer or similar can be parked in the public street for a period in excess of 24 hours and only for the purpose of loading and unloading.
When such vehicles are parked off the street on private property the following regulations apply:
  • Vehicles may not be parked on vacant lots unless said lot is immediately adjacent and under the same ownership as an abutting lot that is developed.
  • Vehicles may be parked in the garage or an enclosed accessory building that meets all code requirements.
  • Vehicles parked in the front yard must be parked on Portland cement or asphaltic concrete, cannot overhang the public sidewalk, and must be at least 10 feet back as measured from the back of the street curb.
  • Vehicles parked in the side or rear yard of a house must be parked on a pad that measures the entire width and length of the vehicle and such pad can be concrete, asphalt, concrete pavers, crushed concrete or loose rock, 1½ inch average diameter, 4 inches deep and self contained within a boundary.
  • Commercial vehicles are not allowed on the street or off the street in residential districts with the exception of construction vehicles parked off street that are engaged in an active construction site, or vehicles associated with home based businesses approved by the City.
  • Semi trucks and tractor trailer rigs are not allowed in residential districts except for deliveries, moving services, etc.
