Summer Festivals

Each summer we host an event that celebrates books in some way. From Edible Book Festivals to the Book Art Festival, there is a library-sponsored event to showcase the creativity of our community.

Book Art Festival (2024)

This festival allows entrants to transform a book into a piece of art using any method they wished: painting, coloring, drawing, taking it apart, cutting it up, adding to it, making a "sculpture," just being creative! They did need to include a book in some way; either selecting their own or using a book provided by the library. Participants (ages 5–100+) could bring entries that were no larger than 20 inches by 20 inches and had to sit on a tabletop.

The Showcase was held on Monday, July 15 from 12:00–8:45pm and Tuesday, July 16 from 9:00am–8:45pm in the Platte Room. All the fabulous entries were on display for people to come and see. If you missed it, or just want to see them again, here is the video!

Edible Book Festivals (2014–2023)

This event featured art pieces, made out of food, that reflected books or book themes. Think book titles, characters, plots, literary figures, puns on book titles, etc. Within each of the four categories (Ages 5–8, 9–12, 13–18, and 19+) there were awards (chosen by our selected judges) on the following categories: "Wittiest/Funniest/Punniest," "Most Creative Use of Ingredients," and "Best Interpretation of a Title." There was also a "People’s Choice Award" for each category that was determined by the vote of all attendees.
